Sister Burt...My first Texas companion!
MTC President and Sister Dean with Hermanas

This has been an amazing week. we got to Mcallen airport and i could have sworn that the plane missed texas and dropped us off in the middle of mexico... seriously i have to remind myself i am in the US sometimes. But i love it... it is glorious. so we went to the mission home and that is where i met my companion.. her name is sister burt and she is from Arizona. We had dinner at the Mission Presidents home and then had a devotional and the herms were sleeping there but i was to go with my companion and stay at our apartment... When we were leaving, elder berglund thought that we werent coming back the next day and so he was saying goodbye to us and he just started bawling. it was so sweet. it is amazing how close we have all gotten as our mtc district. i have really missed all of them but i am glad that they are all doing what they came out here to do.
We went back the next day and had breakfast and said our goodbyes... heartwrenching..
Already, it feels like a month ago... so my first week here has been work work work.. i have neevr worked so hard in my life and have never been so happy in my life. Oh my gosh.. the heat! IT IS AMAZING!!! It is sooo hot and muggy and i sweat like crazy and my skin is already soo dark and i have some really cool tan lines on my feet from my shoes!
Alright so we have some amazing investigators. They are sooo poor and live in the most humble of conditions. it is amazing. margerita has 5 kids and lives in these really really broken down apts and whenever we drive up all the kids from the complex run out to greet us. The spirit is amazing as we sit in her one room apt and share the gospel with her. she loves the book of mormon and reads it everyday, but she can't get baptized because she is not married to her husband and they can't get married because he got married to someone else 18 years ago and doesn't know where she is. it is a really sad situation. but the spirit is so strong and i love visiting them... whenever we go there i feel like we are more in jamaica then the US. I will take a picture with all the kids so you can see what my life is like now.
the spanish... wow... i have so much to learn but i feel so blessed because i am able to understand about 80% of all the things that are being said now... which is way more than i could a week ago. i am working on it as hard as i can but it is a struggle because there are so many things i want to say i just don't have the words to say them...
The food.... ohhhhh my... it is amazing.. but they feed you SO much! we went to a dinner appt and she was making these giant tostada things and then she put 4 on each plate..i thought these were the serving plates... and that the whole family was going to come out and join us.. but these were just for us... and they justsat there and watched. so i felt obligated... and then she wanted to give me more! i thought i was going to be sick... so when i thought i was done she brought out dessert! SOOOOOOOO MUCH FOOD! it is crazy... so the days that we have dinner appts i usually skip some other meal that day in preparation! But it is really good and i am excited to make some for you!
something hilarious... we were teaching this 18 yr old and he has 4 kids and one on the way and his "wife" looked way older than him... anyway this is all besides the point but i found it interesting.. anyway we were teaching him.. and all of a sudden a duck just walks out from around the corner.... HE had a PET DUCK! i was so distracted.. i just started laughing because who does that! oh man we have met some crazies... but we have also met some really wonderful people too! I love my mission!!!
i love you all! have a wonderful week!!!!
